In August 2021, I had the chance to discover the capital of Austria. This August was the subject of many trips, the best of which was to Milan (to be discovered in the coming weeks). I’ll be eternally grateful to my two sidekicks who got me on board with their idea of going to Vienna, via Prague before returning to Berlin. That’s why I only stayed for a weekend, as the pace of the trip was as fast as the organisation.
I didn’t have the idea to write about it originally, knowing that I wouldn’t necessarily have the time to collect a lot of addresses and take pictures. In order to complete this post, I decided to go back next spring to describe again this city that conquered me.

As for transport, I left Berlin using the Deutsche Bahn website (German version of the SNCF) which sells cheaper train tickets on average. If you are under 26 years old, you can take the Superspar Preis Europa option which allows you to travel in Europe at a low price. From Berlin to Vienna: about 40euros.
I travelled all three days with the day ticket for a total of 17euros.
There are trams almost everywhere, but buses are a bit difficult to find.
I was very lucky to get free accommodation like a princess, in a bright flat with a Viennese style layout. I don’t have any specific recommendations yet, except that the neighbourhood I was in was close to everything and very quiet (my Bezirk = neighbourhood was called Meidling).
My second sidekick working in restaurants (and bars), I followed her everywhere without wondering where we were: I had to order a pizza right next to the flat (devoured in the early morning after a 7am rave), had dinner at Eduard’s, the café where he was a waiter, and a few pastries just before taking the bus to Prague.
I still recommend:
– to have a Zimtschneke in the morning = a cinnamon roll
– try the Wiener Schnitzel with chicken (breaded chicken actually)

So if I didn’t take many pictures in Vienna, what did I do?
I danced for 7 hours non-stop, except for a 15min micro-nap.
I loved the techno scene in the Austrian capital: the DJs are good, the crowd is not as aggressive as in Berlin, and the outfits are beautiful.
So the best address in this post is… a farm. I spent an unforgettable Saturday in a garden next to the Haschahof farm.
In terms of activities, I would advise you to go swimming in the Danube and not to forget its quays in the city centre.
Finally, here is a small list of places not to be missed to take great pictures:
– the Stadtpark
– Karlsplatz
– Heldenplatz
– Rosengarten

I still wanted to do a classic activity on Sunday: discovering the Schloss Belvedere which contains the famous « Kiss » by Klimt. Well, I was disappointed by this painting (which I find duller in person). The work that won my heart is Die Umarmung by Egon Schiele.

Next stop: Prague!
